Vietnam Women's Memorial

This has nothing to do with the post, but it's something I think about too...

On the Unladylike podcast, they interviewed the woman responsible for the Vietnam Women's Memorial. She describes what she felt when Reagan unveiled the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, only detailing and being grateful for the men's service. Hint: it was anger. The role her mother and husband played were instrumental. It really does take a village. Hard work is not enough.

Her first attempt was rebuffed cruelly by saying if we allow a women's statue, we'll have to let the canine corp have a statue too. A dog! Kind of sounds like the ridiculous opposition to gay marriage - if we let the gays get married, what's next, people marrying dogs? Crucial to the tide turning in terms of support appeared to be getting on 60 Minutes. This wasn't in the tour speech as I remember it. I saw this statue in October of this year. It does stand out as being significant, but now even more so.
